Ricardo Hernandez, RealtorĀ®

In 1988, Ricardo Hernandez left his home in Lima, Peru, to seek better opportunities in the United States. Settling in College Park, Md., and then in Washington, D.C., Ricardo worked in construction until he was able to finance a move to Miami Beach. This 1998 relocation brought him back to the beach, which he had missed, but it also led him to real estate, the career heā€™s been devoted to for more than two decades.

Why Real Estate?

Looking back, Ricardo seemed to have been priming himself. He has always been interested in interior design and architecture, but the time he spent working in construction added practical knowledge and appreciation for the ā€œbonesā€ beneath those designs. Upon arriving in Miami, he worked in hospitality for a hotel-condominium property, honing his people skills and learning about properties. Purchasing his own condo offered the opportunity to see the process from start to finish. This experience convinced him that he had the skills and the passion to make a great Realtor, so he took the leap. He quit his job and went to school. After he graduated from Gold Coast School of Real Estate in Miami, he obtained his RealtorĀ® license. Ask why he loves being in real estate, and his face lights up. ā€œI know it sounds clichĆ©d, but I love that moment when someone walks into a house and says, ā€˜This is my home.ā€™ Itā€™s rewarding to help them find that home and to see their smiles.ā€

Miami to D.C. to St. Pete

This attitude and his skills contributed to a multi-decade career that had spanned from Miami to Washington, D.C., where Ricardo spent much of the former decade living with his partner. In 2018, their search for a vacation house with easy access to a beach, room for their three cats, and some quiet outdoor space with a pool brought them to St. Pete. Falling in love with the special vibe of the community, he decided in 2019 to move his real estate business here full time. These days, he brings his passion for real estate and depth and breadth of knowledge to the local market.

Tina and her husband Brian visited St Pete for the first time in January of 2017. Four months later, they waved goodbye to Illinois and moved to their new forever home in the Sunshine City! They both believe itā€™s the best snap decision they ever made. Leaving her job as a university history professor was the toughest part of the relocation, but she is thoroughly enjoying having more time to write. Currently, in addition to her work with Green Bench Monthly, she is working on her third book (and first novel) and loving life in DTSP.
