From the Bench: November 2021

The theme this month is SHOP LOCAL. We say it every year, but after the last eighteen months especially, a lot of local retailers are depending on this season to make up for lost sales. So that means you’ve got a job to do St. Pete — stay out of box stores (as much as you can)! As Keep Saint Petersburg Local puts it “Think local first”. Every big or small purchase you make at an independently owned business makes a difference. This issue is full of ads that feature gift ideas, special offers, and experiences to share. From goodies for your pets, dance lessons, pottery classes, professional services, to skin rejuvenation, and flowers — we’re sure you can find something for everyone on your list! On another note, if you can, please donate food, time, or money to the Radius Thanksgiving drive. It’s been amazing to watch this drive grow over the years! Their goal is to feed 500 families this year, so whatever you can do to help them make that happen will go a long way in the community. See back cover for details. From our family to yours, we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, with great food, surrounded by family and friends!

Till next time,

Ashley & Tony

If you’re a regular at El Cap, chances are Johnny Johnson has greeted you with his famous phrase, “Hello Beautiful People”. Known as the Mayor of El Cap, Johnny is celebrating his 30th anniversary working for the St. Pete staple. Next time you go to El Cap, make sure to say “Hi” and tell Johnny congratulations! It’s people like him that make St. Pete such a great place to live and visit. Thank you for your service, Johnny! El Cap Restaurant is located at 3500 4th St N, open daily at 11am.
