Last-Minute Holiday Gift Guide [2016]

Do you have a sudden need for a last-minute holiday gift? Thankfully Saint Petersburg is home to a bunch of quirky and creative stores that offer extended holiday hours. Here are a few local shops where you can cool your panic and find that awesome, unique gift you need.

Paper Street Market

Paper Street Market

727-894-7777

Mon. – Fri. 10am to 5pm
Sat. 10am to 6pm
Sun. 12pm to 4pm

Closed December 25th The Paper Street Market feels like you’ve walked into a vintage-lover’s daydream. There are stacks of reclaimed furniture topped with statues and warm lamps. You’ll find shelves of frosted glass beakers and vintage framed poster art. When you pick up an item at Paper Street Market, you know it’s unique and you can feel that it has a history behind it. If you need furniture, they’ve got it; if you just need something simple, covered. You’re sure to find a gift that’s interesting and precious in its own way here. And the staff is very happy to tell you the story behind your selection!

Wilson’s Book World

Wilsons

2394 Doctor M.L.K. Jr St N St. Petersburg, FL 33704
727-896-3700

Mon. – Sat. 10am to 6pm

The book selection at Wilson’s Book World is exactly what you’d hoped to find at your local bookstore. It’s extensive. It’s separated by distinct genres and alphabetized, which makes hunting down a book pretty easy. Wilson’s offers everything a book lover could want, from mystery and fantasy novels to comics and reference books. (My personal favorite was the tiny bookcase dedicated to folklore and myth I found in a dim side room.) The decoration at Wilson’s Book World is both curious and delightful–ceramic animal statues, landscape paintings, a Freddy Krueger cutout and a wooden figurehead looming over an entryway. But possibly the best part about Wilson’s is the price of a book. To tell you the truth, you’d probably pay more for shipping on Amazon. Wilson’s slogan hits the nail on the head, a Latin phrase–OB LECTIO AMORE, which means “for the love of reading.”

Strands of Sunshine

633 Central Ave St. Petersburg, FL 33701Strands of Sunshine
727-823-2878

Mon. – Sat. 11am to 6pm
Sun. 12pm to 5pm
Closed December 25th

All the items at Strands of Sunshine are handcrafted by talented artists with unique, creative styles. The shop is set up like a colorful hallway, where handmade artwork and quirky items are staged in a series of connected rooms. And all the way in the back you’ll find the workbench of Amy Marshall who makes handcrafted goods right in the store! The shop also offers special events and workshops (think jewelrymaking classes and private parties) that could be great gifts for anyone with a creative bone. Strands of Sunshine has been highly praised for its unique offerings since it opened in 2012.

Zazoo’d

531 Central Ave St. Petersburg, FL 33701Zazoo’d
727-344-9663

Mon. – Sat. 11am to 6pm
Sun. 12pm to 4pm
Closed December 25th

Zazoo’d is like Harry Potter’s Room of Requirement except with wonderful gifts, furniture, and decor for sale. Much of the merchandise in Zazoo’d is inspired by the sea, but don’t think for a minute they’re limited to that! Beyond the mermaid ornaments and the chrome sealife are items like cards, shirts, decanter sets, books, bookends, clocks, candles, and framed artwork. The long space that makes up the shop is covered from baseboard to ceiling in fantastic, eye-catching pieces. There’s simply no way to walk into Zazoo’d without finding at least one fascinating item for yourself and at least two that would be perfect for friends or family.
